Mission
Ziska’s mission is to draw attention to previously under-researched and politically sensitive topics in sports governance. It is different from other organisations in its aim to generate knowledge and education. It is necessary to monitor whether the long-term collective well-being of society is taken into account in the governance of sport.
Oligarchy is an inevitable phenomenon in any democratic system, no matter how democratic its origin. Oligarchy as a form of governance means that society is controlled by a narrow group pursuing self-interested goals. This form of governance is often associated with inequalities of income and rights, obstacles to economic growth, the imposition of a particular ideology, lack of long-term strategic planning, restrictions on competition and favouritism. Democracy as an institution must be preserved not only to reproduce it, but also to ensure public participation in decision-making processes that contribute to the development of any sector. Ziska’s mission is to safeguard democracy in the relationship between sport governance institutions and society.
A large part of the public lacks the means to express their opinions and defend their interests. Sport is based on ideal values, but unethical means are often used in the struggle for prestige and profit. Fair play is the philosophical basis of sport, reflecting fairness and based on fair and respectful competition. According to the theory, fairness is a moral obligation for human beings. The mission of the Organisation is to monitor the observance of fairness and legality in the management practices of sports organisations.
